Recently an Assistant Professor of English at The Ohio State University, Cathy Shuman is now Index Editor for the Teaching of Literature at the Modern Language Association International. Although they routinely resisted the spread of formal educational testing, their work reveals a fascination with the examination’s unique ability to make reading and writing visible as value-able labor.
